Property Law and Contracts

Evaluate the law and contract provisions that impact and secure property value with respect to property rights and obligations, public private partnerships, conveyance, ownership structure, leases, liens, mortgages, property finance, rights of way, easements, covenants, and other legal and contract provisions.

Property Law is an important thing that anyone in real estate should be familiar with. Many Deals in land development and real estate in general require Complex legal analyzation to protect companies and people alike.

In LDEV 651 Professor Clark taught us about a lot in Texas Property Law, including things like Joint Tenancy vs Tenancy in Common, landlord tenant law, squatter’s rights, and things that many people in development deal with like easements and setbacks. In this class I learned about the legal process and one of the things I particularly enjoyed was learning about the process of Title Theory in Texas. When purchasing a home, which is something I hope to do soon, you do not actually hold the title to your home until your loan is completely paid off, and the title is held in a 3rd party deed of trust with a lien against your title until the loan is paid. I know that this class will help me when it comes to easements, rights as a landlord to a tenant and the legal proceedings of purchasing a home in the future.
