Sustainable Development
Evaluate the latest knowledge and innovations in Sustainable Development to ascertain how property value and returns can be maximized.
Sustainable development is defined as meeting the development needs of the present generation without compromising the opportunities of future generations. Many cities and new developments are following the principals of sustainable development by forgoing density in favor of amenities, walkways and green space. This creates such a better area and sense of place and community spirit as opposed to developments that try to maximize density on to a plot of land. Creating a place full of cultural and community value has become a big selling point to many developers over the past few years. In FINC 670 we learned about entire office buildings that are completely carbon neutral and are in fact helpful to the environment rather than minimally harmful, called the living building challenge. With features such as gravitational plumbing, fully opening windows for climate control in the building. While we may not have that in the Texas heat yet, I believe that the steps already being taken today will ensure sustainability and prosperity for future generations as well.
